What you need to know about your vehicles brakes..

The longevity of your brake discs and pads depends on the vehicle model, quality of brakes, and driving habits. In most cases, wear and tear of brakes are recognized early during a tire change over. However, a lot of vehicles now have a brake sensor that will indicate on the dashboard that a brake needs to be done.

When should you replace the brakes?

  • Replacement of brakes will be necessary with a remaining of 2 millimeters or more.

  • If you hear grinding noise or if the car pulls slightly to one side, you should visit a repair shop.

  • Another sign can be a slight jolting of the steering wheel or the brake pedal when the brakes are applied.

Can parking the vehicle for some time, damage the brakes?

  • Simply answered yes, it can. One of the biggest enemies of brakes is rust. If a slight rust film has formed on the brake discs, you can break it away relatively easily by simply driving.

  • Take the vehicle out for a spin that includes some stop-and-go driving, and brake a little more aggressively when usual. That will remove some if not all of the rust.
