Holiday Season Tips
The holiday season is a festive time of year filled with family and friends. We are all busy shopping, visiting, entertaining, attending parties and it can be a very stressful time of the year. The following are a few tips to help you through the holiday season:
Make a list, check it twice – Putting everything you need to get done or purchase onto paper helps clear your mind so you can focus on what is important… enjoying time with friends and family.
Check your vehicles maintenance – There is almost nothing worse during the holiday season then an unexpected breakdown. Make sure your vehicle maintenance is up to date. For more information see our article on “Preparing your vehicle for winter”.
Make sure your home and vehicle are secure – Unfortunately burglaries tend to rise during the holiday season with would-be criminals looking for expensive gifts in both your home and vehicle. As a precaution keep your gifts in the trunk of your vehicle and double check the locks on both your home and vehicle before leaving to ensure they are both secure.
Get a good night sleep – It is best to be well rested especially while driving. Not getting enough sleep can affect your motor skills and can slow your reaction time. If you are driving long distances, consider taking turns driving with someone else or staying in a hotel for a night.
Leave early – The roads will be full of people doing the same thing as you, attending family gatherings or last-minute shopping. Leaving earlier helps ensure you will arrive on time and avoid the stress of being stuck in traffic.
If you drink, don’t drive – Holidays are a time for celebrating with friends and family. You may be tempted to have a drink or two. Plan ahead to have a designated driver or call a taxi.
Enjoy! – By planning ahead, driving safely and giving yourself a little extra time while out on the roads you can ensure your holiday season is a safe and happy one.
