Changes to the Manitoba Vehicle Safety Inspection Standards

As you may or may not know, as of March 1st, 2019 Manitoba Public Insurance has made changes to the vehicle safety inspection standards. The following is a brief outline of some of the changes:

Anti-Lock Brake System Indicator (ABS System) and Electronic Stability Control: If the indicator lamp fails to comeon during testing, is always illuminated, or if there are any visual signs of tampering this will be considered a failure.

Air Bag System:

Supplementary Restraint System Indicator Light (SRS Indicator): If the indicator lamp fails to come on during testing, is always illuminated, or if there are any visual signs of tampering this will be considered a failure.

Air Bag Cover: If it is missing or damaged this will be considered a failure.

Trailer Hitch (if equipped): If the trailer hitch mounting is broken, cracked, bent, is not secure to the vehicle or has any sharp edges protruding this would be considered a failure.

Tire Tread Depth Measurements: The measurements for tire tread depth are now listed on the Certificate of Inspection. Any measurement below 1.6mm (2/32 inch) or if the tread wear indicator contacts the road surface is considered a failure.

Pricing: The pricing for Manitoba Vehicle Safety Inspections is no longer regulated by the Government of Manitoba.

Manitoba Vehicle Safety Inspections are valid for one year from the date the inspection is completed.
