Are there environmentally friendly tires?

In recent years, the demand for environmentally friendly products has increased significantly. All well-known tire manufacturers - such as: Michelin, Goodyear, Bridgestone and Continental - have started to optimize their products accordingly. The focus is clearly on increasing the service life of the tires, as this means that fewer old tires pollute the environment.

Michelin introduced the first environmentally friendly tire back in 1992. Since then there have been many technical innovations that are suppose to ensure more sustainability. For example, a special tread ensures that the tires show less wear.

Renault presented the prototype “Eolab” (Renault Eolab is a concept car plug-in hybrid designed by the French car manufacturer Renault) in 2014. The car is equipped with special Michelin tires and is particularly economical to drive. Only around 1 liter of fuel is used over 100 km. The tires also make a significant contribution to this value.

The so-called Michelin Tall & Narrow tire has a comparatively large diameter and is very narrow. Its innovative construction enables a high level of driving comfort, low rolling resistance and very good protection against aquaplaning. Thanks to its narrow dimensions, it also ensures low fuel consumption. In addition, thanks to its special profile, it is very durable and lasts significantly longer than conventional tires. Which not only protects the environment in the long term but is also easy on the wallet.
